OUR MISSION:

Our Resilient Community ALC is a queer-centered self-directed micro-school for students between the ages of 6 and 17. We center queerness in many ways; by celebrating authentic identity, fighting for justice, exploring queer history and culture, and even by queering the concept of education itself by shifting our understanding of knowledge and learning to be passion-led and playful. We meet Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 3pm with options for Full and Part-Time attendance.

Our Resilient Community also makes space for members to pursue passions while growing and learning in community. As a Queer Community Center, we provide a co-working space, a makers’ space, opportunities for artistic collaboration, community resources, and justice-oriented fellowship for LGBTQ+ people as well as allies, advocates, and accomplices.

What is a Resilient Community?

A community that is resilient is able to respond to and recover from adversity. As a resilient community, we prioritize the social, emotional, mental, and physical health of our members and are dedicated to being a resource, both as a space for building ourselves up as individuals, and as one in which we strengthen the bonds between our members. Our community is made of people; our resilience is for them.

Our Values:

  • At Our Resilient Community Center and Our Resilient Community ALC, we center the needs of those most impacted by our actions. As such, we strive to place the needs of marginalized and oppressed groups over the comfort of others and invite our community to do the same. We do not tolerate the exclusion or mistreatment of anyone based on their gender, race, ethnic origin, disability, age, nationality or national origin, sexuality, gender identity or expression, religion or belief, marital status, familial status, or social class. We also believe that while ally-ship is valuable, what oppressed and marginalized people most need are accomplices and active inclusion. Our space and teaching will reflect these beliefs.

  • The community we provide is definitionally queer. Though we welcome allies, advocates, and accomplices, we prioritize the voices and concerns of the queer members of our community.
